The existence of Vifjhoek Fort which developed into a city fort is a significant momentum in the development of Kota Lama Semarang. Based on the existence of the fort, the development of Kota Lama Semarang can be divided into three phases: Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III. Phase I is the pre-fort period that occurred between 1677-1741. Phase II is the period when the city was equipped with a fort (the fortress period) between 1756-1824. Phase III was the period after the city fort was destroyed related to the development of a modern city by the Dutch Government (the post-fortress period) between 1824 - 1866.
