Captain Tack and the Company's residents sent de Bayonville out to survey the site and draw a sketch of the new fort; the result of this survey was a map of Semarang drawn by Mendert de Roy, a Gezaghebber or head of government for the North-East Coast of Java (March-April 1696).

Previous sequence of events:

1687 - After the second agreement between Mataram and VOC, the restoration of the VOC post fortress began. Not long after the restoration, the construction of the Vijfhoek Fortress began.

1697-1698 - Fort Vijfhoek is estimated to have been completed. According to the Plattegrond van Het For van Samarang or Plan of Semarang Fortress (1697), the profile of the five bastions are already depicted in that plan along with notes on the division of rooms inside.
