Precisely on 5 July 1913 , ANIEM (Algemeene Nederlandsch Indische Electiciteits-Maatschappij) which obtained a concession for Pontianak, Singkawang, Central Java, and East Java, began operating and providing electricity network services in Semarang. ANIEM was a company that was based in Amsterdam, while the branch centre in the colony was in Surabaya.


ANIEM is under the board of directors of Naamlooze Vennotschap Handelsvennootschap voorheen Maintz & Co. headquartered in Amsterdam. The Semarang branch centre was located at Noorderwalstraat (now Jl. Merak No. 15/ Tawang polder area) and now the building is being used as Praoe Lajar Cigarette Factory. While Kantoor met Winkel (Office and Shop) ANIEM Semarang area was located on Jalan Bodjong (now known as Jalan Pemuda).


Previous event:

21 June 1910 - A conference was held at the city hall between the director engineer of the ANIEM and some authorities, including Mr. Heinzelmann, director of the government telephone service, to discuss some technical matters concerning the construction of conductors and the placement of transformers for the supply of electricity for lighting and electric propulsion. A hydroelectric power plant will be built along the Toentang River.
