Based on the 1866 Dutch Map Plan the city of Samarang or Plattegrond de stad Samarang, The Spoorwegstation or railway station is shown next to Werksplaatsen (railway workshop), Station Chef (stationmaster's office), Goederenstation (goods station), and Personenstation (passenger station). The station was located in Kemijen (more precisely in Kampung Spoorlaan).
The construction project began on 17 June 1864, under the direction of the Governor General of the Dutch East Indies, Mr. L. A. J. Baron Sloet van de Beele, and was carried out by the private company Nederlansch Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij (NISM). The Samarang Station was inaugurated and opened to the public along with the Semarang-Tanggung railway segment on 10 August 1867.
