Development of the Frederik Julius Coyett Hospital building:
There is no specific explanation for the building's change of function since 1732, however, it can be seen on old maps (1866, 1909, and 1935) that the entire structure has changed its function from a hospital to an orphanage and nursery.

The orphanage building is shown as number 21 on the 1866 Dutch map.

1866 - On an 1866 map titled Plattegrond van der Stad Samarang, legend number 21 shows the location as Roomsch Weeshuis, which means "Roman Catholic Orphanage." The Frederik Julius Coyett Hospital appears to have been turned into an orphanage that year. The exact location is on the Groote post weg naar de boven landen (Great Post Road to the Hill Country; towards Vorstenlanden) north of Karang Gedangan, west of Toerwegen.

1909 - On the 1909 map, titled Semarang en Omstreken; seen in Kloosterstraat (now Jl. Ronggowarsito), there is a place called Instituut Zusters Fransiscanessen or Fransiscan Sisterhood Institute. The Roomsch Katholik Weeshuis, or Roman Catholic Orphanage, was located to the south of the structure. This year, the area was transformed into a complex of nunnery and orphanage buildings.

1935 - On the 1935 map, titled Kaart van Semarang on the map sheet and Plattegrond van Semarang on the source detail, a complex of buildings with numbers 96 and 106 is visible west of Kloosterstraat (now Jl. Ronggowarsito). Katholik meisjel weeshuis (Catholic women's orphanage) is the building with legend number 96, and Instituut Zusters Fransiscanessen (Franciscan Sisterhood) is the building with legend number 106. Based on the map, the structure was repurposed as an orphanage and nunnery complex.
